  • LA Times article about Demi- Here is Demi Lovato, just 16 and already a 10-year show-business vet: She got her start on “Barney” and last year was the female lead in “Camp Rock” (the Jonas Brothers movie) and she is enmeshed head to toe in the whole Disney star-making machinery, with a hit album released last fall on the Disney-owned Hollywood records and a new situation comedy premiering Sunday on the Disney Channel.
“Sonny With a Chance,” as in “of rain,” I guess — formerly called “Welcome to Mollywood,” when the lead character had a different name — casts Lovato as the newest member of a show within the show, a sketch comedy called “So Random!” Executive producer Brian Robbins co-created the actual Nickelodeon tween sketch comedy “All That,” and “So Random!” has a kind of authenticity that the sitcom containing it neither achieves nor attempts. (Creator Steve Marmel has written a lot for cartoons.)
There are two sorts of tween sitcoms — the ones that star girls and the ones that star boys. The boys tend to be paired (Drake and Josh, Zack and Cody) in Two Stooges fashion, while the girls (Hannah, Carly, Sonny) are talented self-starters who dream big: Here, Sonny, a preternaturally nice girl from Wisconsin who posted funny things on the Internet, has been brought to Hollywood to join the cast of “So Random!,” which is, you know, like, her total lifelong dream. She is surrounded there by a complement of familiar types: a stuck-up blond girl (Tiffany Thornton), who isn’t a cheerleader but plays one on TV; a funny fat boy (Doug Brochu); a would-be Lothario (Brandon Mychal Smith); a strange little person (Allisyn Ashley Arm); and a good-looking fellow (Sterling Knight), who when we meet him is all full of himself but, as the only visible love interest for Lovato, will in the course of time be revealed to be not so bad after all. Former teen star Nancy McKeon, who is excited to live in a place where she can buy produce from a man standing at a freeway offramp, plays Sonny’s mom, but I doubt you will be seeing much of her.
There are some clever references to the adolescent entertainment world in which its stars all swim (they compete for “the prestigious Tween Choice Award,” etc.), but for the most part “Sonny” is subtle neither in form nor content. Like most kids’ shows nowadays, it is somewhat violently designed — its main sets, which are riots of color, are like tween dream rooms writ large — and performed. (I don’t mean to knock the talented cast when I say it’s pitched like a high school play.) There are jokes about butts and boogers and barf, as here, where Brochu’s character is upset that he has been forced to play an egg to Smith’s chicken.
“It’s not fair,” Bochu complains. “I always have to play the thing that comes out of you. . . . You played the mother, I played the baby. You played the stomach, I played the barf.”
Lovato, who has a low voice like Miley Cyrus’ and a comically mobile face, is very good, to the extent that it even matters. She is already a star, and her show was a hit from the very moment it was announced.
  • The Jonas Brothers attended the “2009 MusiCares Person Of The Year Tribute to Neil Diamond” event tonight. It was at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA, United States. Leading Lady from their music video, “Lovebug” & friend, Camilla Belle attended the event as well. Both her and the boys looked amazing! • Dierks Barkley intrigued by Jonas Brothers music- Country singer Dierks Bentley is a man known for hitting the road hard, so it’s appropriate that when PopWatch met him Wednesday night in New York City, where he’s been promoting his new album, Feel That Fire, he had just returned from a day trip to Philadelphia. After signing 700 autographs in three hours at a Pennsylvania Dave & Buster’s, he needed alcohol. So first, he captured our toast for the Flip videos he shoots and edits for his website. “The best location I’ve ever had an interview in: Irish Pub,” he said, holding a Guinness he was forced to drink. (Mindful of his deal with Bud Light, he quickly added, “This is a Bud Light. This is Bud Light.”) Then, he submitted to an EW Pop Culture Personality Test, which eventually spread to the next table…
Your pop culture blind spot?I’ve very intrigued by the Jonas Brothers. I’ve gone online and had a listen and watched some stuff. What am I missing here?
And what did you think? It’s good music. I actually downloaded a tune… I hate to have that on tape.
Which song? The line that stuck out was something about “you can take this, you can take that, you can take this awesome scarf my grandma made for me.” Do you know what song I’m talking about? ["Girl of My Dreams"] I loved it. They’re singing it all punk. [Scrunches up his face and sings] “You can take this awesome scarf my grandma made for me.” It’s lyrics for a younger audience, but they really perform with a lot of bravado and they have a lot of great moves. When I was 13, I was just figuring out how to play “Eruption,” poorly, by Eddie Van Halen… [Source: EW]
  • Up for an award and slated to perform on Grammy night, the Jonas Brothers are “beyond nervous” but promise a few delightful surprises for their fans. February 05, 2009, (Sawf News) - Up for an award and slated to perform on Grammy night, the Jonas Brothers are “beyond nervous” but promise a few delightful surprises for their fans.
Speaking to People magazine on the set of their upcoming Disney Channel series, JONAS, Kevin, 21, said:
“I’m beyond nervous. I’m not even going to hide it at all. We’re going to focus on the performance. That’s what we do best and that’s what we’ll put our minds on.”
They wouldn’t divulge what they planned to perform.
“I can’t give away any secrets but there will be some big surprises,” said 16-year-old Nick Jonas.
The sibling rockers are nominated in the Best New Artist category along with Adele, Duffy, Lady Antebellum and Jazmine Sullivan.
They readily defer to the stiff competition that they face in their category.
“We would love to win…at the end of the day I think Adele is really amazing. I’d give her record, Chasing Pavements, record of the year,” Nick says unabashedly.
“Just to be in that room, performing on that stage is amazing,” Joe, 19, agrees.

  • New Movie Surfers for JB 3D -

  • With Universal announcing that they are developing a movie based on the board game, Candy Land, we realized just how much film potential there is in adapting other classic kids’ games. Here are some others we’d like to see in the works:
HUNGRY HUNGRY HIPPOSIn DreamWorks’ CGI comedy, a family of obese hippopotami get kicked out of the hippo community for eating too much food. Bruce Willis (pictured), Holly Hunter, and Joe Jonas voice the tubby clan. Alone in the African jungle, they inadvertently find themselves helping out King Toucan (Gilbert Gottfried), whose stockpile of magical white pellets is being stolen by evil crocodiles. Fast-food marketing opportunities abound, as well as tie-ins with The Biggest Loser and possibly yogurt-covered peanuts, which look kind of like the white pellets. Jesse McCartney sings the title song, “Hungry Hungry Hippos (Wha-chu Gonna Eat Now?)” [source: JonasHQ]
  • Note to Baz Luhrmann: If Nicole Kidman passes up the chance to work with you again, there’s always Joe Jonas! Before 19-year-old Jonas Brother became an international heartthrob, he appeared as a “punk kid…on roller skates” in Luhrmann’s 2003 Broadway production of La Boheme. Now Joe (along with siblings Kevin and Nick) wants the Australia director to helm one of the band’s next music videos. “We tried to reach out to him,” says Jonas, who spoke to EW from the set of the trio’s upcoming comedy series JONAS for the Disney Channel. “I think eventually we’ll connect with him. I’d love to work with him again.” [Soiurce: Hollywood Insider]
  • New Taylor blog- Hello there,So I've been rehearsing all week with my band. I get up early in the morning, do phone interviews on the way to rehearsal, and practice all day. It's been so much fun playing the new songs! We're rehearsing for the 3 shows we're doing before the Fearless tour kicks off in April. We're playing the San Antonio Rodeo, the Houston Rodeo, and Plant City, FL because they're awesome and I wanted to play there even if it was before the tour started. So we're working up the new songs and practicing for these shows, and I'm so excited. Today Miley came to our rehearsal and we were working up the performance for the Grammys. We worked it up, practiced a bunch, and then ate an entire pizza. I can't believe it but the first show for the Fearless Tour goes on sale tomorrow!! It's not the first show we play on the tour (our opening night is in Indiana), but it's the first show to put tickets on sale. It's the LA show at the Staples Center. First of all, I can't believe I'm playing the Staples Center. Wow. This is just.. Wow. I hope people show up. I think about this tour all day, every day. I'm so excited that Kellie's coming out to open up-- She's been one of my best friends since we toured together a few years ago, and it's gonna be hilarious to be on the road with her again. I can't wait to go over to her bus and hang out with her and all of her tiny little animals that she has rapidly acquired. Between the cat, the dog, the snake, and the monkey... It's going to be a trip. Or a zoo. Or both. I love her and I'm so lucky she's coming out with me.Also, there's this new group called Gloriana that's coming out with us. They're AMAZING and I love their new single "Wild at Heart". I heard it and immediately knew I wanted them on this tour. Check them out, I think you'll agree. Everyone in Nashville is buzzing about them and now I get to have them out with ME this summer. Yessssss. I'm headed off to bed now. Tomorrow I leave again for 50 years. Actually, a few weeks. But basically, I have some major packing to do.lovelovelove-T-
